I do not know if any of you have seen this elsewhere but the UN needs to deal with this.
108 people killed including 49 children.
Please take the warning given before the footage is shown seriously and keep the thread duly respectful.

In what way was what i posted disrespectful?
Whoever deleted what i stated, should re-instate it, if they have any modicum of self respect.

If you want to start a anti-abortion thread go ahead but do not use this horrific tragedy to promote it.

I was very lear in sperating the boundry between diverting the thread.
Firstly i emphasied a warning about the subject manner. because the video is graphic.
Then i commented on the question in the title, to summarise it: i dont know what could be done in this case and that miltary option would never be on the cards for me.
Then i commented on the hypocrisy of the "The Young Turks New show" regarding this video and his apperant distress.
And in doing so commented on how interesting the times we live in are.
It was never intended to be a diversion, just a passing comment, considering "the young turks" are part of the thread. |

The slaying of children is barely imaginable. I cannot fathom the mindset of a person who would be willing to put a child in harms way or, even worse, intentionally set out to kill them. From the time that they are conceived, children are our most precious treasures here on earth. For people to be so casual with their demise shows a sickness in some of humanity that cannot be fathomed by the average person. So sad, if this is legitimate and it was the Syrian gov't, we cannot stand to let this happen one more time. My advice to the U.N. would be to confirm the tragedy and demand for justice against Assad. It must be quick and swift and there must not be bureaucracy. The lines of morality must be drawn somewhere. |

| Westerners tend to - for a variety of reasons, most too obvious to go into, and most not even Western-specific - deeply underestimate the negative consequences of military intervention, especially the long tail of negative consequences. "We" should exercise more caution than we historically have; we should certainly not be so un-self-aware as to deny understanding anyone who could be so horrible as to put children in harm's way and then appeal to the drone machine (the UN/NATO/coalition of the willing/whatever label is placed on it) to set things aright. |

I don't think we need to be in Syria. There's plenty to attend to right here. No sense in trying to "fix" Syria when the US is already mess (or whatever Western nation each poster here hails from).

I agree that the U.S. should stop trying to be the world police (that is part of the reason it finds itself in its current situation). This tragedy requires a unified action from something like the U.N. though, sadly, the U.N. is a toothless bureaucratic organization with little ability to intervene in anything. |

The problem is, if the UN "bore their fangs", it would just lead to even more war and violence, as well as issues of sovereignty. Though I suppose, all prophecies considered, we'll find ourselves under a the authority of a strong globalized system sooner or later.
