I was a teenager and a young Christian when Hal Lindsay wrote his book 'The Late Great Planet Earth' and ever since have held a passing interest in the 'end of days'.

I am interested in learning from those who know much more than I on all the talk about 2012, the end of the Mayan calendar and if/how it all relates to biblical prophecy.

Any comments, thoughts or direction is appreciated.

Thanks,

Bobby

The current thinking of (probably) most end-times watchers is that Dec 2012 may mark the beginning of the 'Great' tribulation of 3.5 years.  All hell breaks loose.

Firstly:
Perhaps you have read or heard about the several amazing solar and lunar eclipses that are all scheduled to occur on Jewish holy days during 2014 and 2015.

Read ths short article first:
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=63076

Then there is this video with Pastor Biltz:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktEmeY9ztaQ

It may be that the 'shortened' (http://biblebrowser.com/matthew/24-22.htm) '70th week' (of 7 years) of Daniel will begin very soon.  With Israel ready to bomb Iran any day now  http://worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=95407, people are saying that it is a distinct possibility.  The world's governments are calling for a unified monetary system and a 'new world order.'

Now regarding 2012 itself:  There are websites that have comprehensive lists and explanations of predicted events.  Here is one of them. (It is sponsored by a company that builds shelters, LOL.)

I'll let you decide where all this places the Rapture of the church.

Preterists will be pleasantly surprised to be defying the laws of gravity soon.

Let's put it this way: Humans have, since time immemorial, derived divine meaning from solar and lunar eclipses. They scheduled holy days to fall on these days. They build massive monuments and buildings to reflect special solar and lunar moments. Etc. Why would there not be Jewish holy days scheduled for lunar and solar eclipses?

As for why did the Mayan calendar end in 2012. I did a bit of research on the Mayan Calendar. I'm not sure what you're talking about. It seems the Mayans measure time in cycles much the same as we do, and thus their calendar does not end anymore than does ours; ours ends every 365 days for most years, and every 366 days on leap year.

The Mayans have several calendars that they use simultaneously. See Wikipedia article.

According to this link, the Aztecs adopted some of the Mayan calendars and there is a "Calendar Round" that completes every 52 years. It seems the Aztec People have the idea that the end of such a Round might bring the end of the world. It does not say that the Mayans believe this. The Christians, however, might. I guess it would be very like the Christians to adapt a pagan religion for their own purposes--they've been doing it for very many centuries. I don't buy into any religion--Aztec or otherwise.

When the Powers-That-Be blow up our planet I'll die along with the rest of you.  Like the rest of you, I'll be dead and stay dead. Unlike some religious folks I know, I don't have to worry about a Great Judgment Day. It was such a consolation standing at my mother's open grave, just knowing she won't have to confront that ordeal.

And no, I won't waste my time reading your articles. I read enough of that crap while I was a Christian. It's very scary and very convincing, but it hasn't a leg to stand on. It is unbiblical to boot. Jesus says so clearly that not even he knows the day or the hour when the world will end. For mere mortals to presume to know is sheer arrogance and egotism. I don't know any other way to make sense of it.

Even if we disagree on eschatology Eric, I really do love your zeal and commitment.

Keep it up bro!
